Welcome to the 158th episode of the Shipping Podcast, where you meet Captain Thomas Lindegaard Madsen of VENTA MAERSK, Maersk Line, one of the more visible role models in the maritime industry.
Thomas has been sailing for almost thirty years and has experience with many different vessels. Currently, his vessel is trading in the Baltic Sea area and this year he is enjoying ice navigation.
Captain Thomas recognises that the biggest change he has seen during his career is the arrival of the internet into our industry.
We get so many insights from Captain Thomas in this episode. He is talking about opportunities with the new technology development, and it is apparent that he loves his job.
Thomas is sharing his concerns about being public on social media. It gives a perspective on how we can showcase the maritime industry to the world by using social media.

Is there any way that I could contact Captain Thomas. I have been communicating with someone on social media who seems to be using his pictures, but not his name to communicate with me.
Ravonda, Thomas is constantly abused by people who use his photos to scam people. If you go to his Instagram, I think he told people who were in your situation to contact him a while ago, but I cannot remember the address. @captainthomas_official with a blue dot after his name.

HE HAS TOLD ME HE DIVORCED MORTEN APR. 8TH 2023 AND THEN HE WILLCOME TO TORONTO, CANADA TO MARRY ME. HE WILL PAY OFF ALL THE DEBTS THAT HE OCCURED THAT I HAD GOT. THOMAS LINDAAGARD MADSEN OWES ME $58,000 DOLLARS. I WAS A CRAZY PERSON TO BELIEVE WHAT HE ASKED ME TO DO. HE ALSO SENT ME NUDE PICTURES OF HIM AND AND ANOTHER ONE OF HIM HAVING SEX WITH MORTEN. EVERY ONE IN NORWAY THINKS HE IS A GREAT GUY, BUT HE IS NOT. YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT YOUR INTERVIEWERS A LOT BETTER.
I am sorry to hear that so many people are using Thomas’ name to scam people for money, and I also know that he is sorry.
On the other hand, how on earth did you trust someone with USD 58,000 whom you don’t know?! Please report to the police, I know that Captain Thomas also wants the police to know.
Dear Andrea, I believe you have been scammed by someone who is using Captain Thomas’ name and picture, but I can assure you it’s not the Captain Thomas I know. He lives in Copenhagen with his husband and has not been in the US. He doesn’t ask for money at all.

Eu fui procurada pelas redes sociais pelo ” thomas ” começamos a conversar ..achei interessante fazer amizade com um capitao de navio .ainda mais não sendo do meu país…sou brasileira …primeiro achei estranho o interesse dele : afinal é um homem muito bonito ; e o q um homem tão bonito e numa posição tão elevada iria querer comigo ? Foi o q pensei ..então comecei investigar e vi postagens dizendo que thomas era gay ..eu questionei ele ; o mesmo me contou uma história ilusória dizendo que era um amigo de trabalho que tentou prejudicar ele inventando essas fotos ..ok .mas eu não sou idiota a ponto de acreditar .fui dando corda pra ele enquanto fazia minhas investigações…thomas me manda fotos. Vídeos e tem coisas que nitidamente eu vejo que é montagem ..chega ser engraçado..Ele já me fez cismada de vídeo. Mas a chamada durou um min ..é uma chamada programada ..enfim tá na cara que a pessoa que tenho falado não é o verdadeiro..mas aí está a questão…porque o verdadeiro não se pronúncia? Ele sab que tem alguém se passando por ele …pra mim é tudo jogada de marketing do proprio capitão..pra ficar famoso ..pq vi vários comentários de pessoas falando que estão sendo enganadas e nunca vi a resposta dele pra essas pessoas …
Dear Camila, Captain Thomas understands that there are hundreds,if not thousand scammers out there using his photos and videos. He has reported it to the police and he has participated in radio- and tv-programmes to talk about how hard he finds this. His heart goes out to the victims but there is hardly anything he can do. One woman even turned up on his doorstep with all her suitcases ready to move in.
Captain Thomas is happily married to his husband Morten.

Captain Thomas lives in Copenhagen, Denmark and there are many copycats out there. There is no Captain Thomas in Brazil.
THOMAS LINDEGAARD MADSEN WAS ON A VACATION IN JAN. 2023 IN BRAZIL WITH MORTEN. IF YOU LOOK AT YOU TUBE YOU WILL SEE 2 PARTS OF HIM DOING SKYDIVING. ANOTHER LIE AND FRAUD HE DID TO ME. HE SAYS HE DOES NOT HAVE MONEY, THAT MAERSK HAS BLOCKED HIS BANK ACCOUNT. ANOTHER LIE.
I am sorry to hear that you have been scammed. Captain Thomas is a friend of mine and I now how much he loves his husband Morten. I work in the maritime industry and I know that Maersk would never leave any of their employees stranded without money. Please report to the police!
Dear Andrea, as previously stated. I am convinced you have been scammed but not by the real Captain Thomas. More women than you have experienced the same thing. You can read on the Facebook Page of the Shipping Podcast about that. You are not alone. But I have to ask you to stop writing on this webpage about your trouble. Thomas Lindegaard Madsen has never lived in Canada or the USA.
