Since joining International Registries Inc., IRI’s legal staff in 1991, William Gallagher has worked closely with the Marshall Islands government and its legislative agenda.
Although he has traveled around the globe meeting clients and speaking at corporate and maritime seminars, William Gallagher has been most instrumental in working with IRI’s Far East clientele.
Prior to joining IRI he specialized in Legal Compliance in the securities industry. He has served as an intern in the United States Senate receiving an award as Intern of the Year and in the German Bundestag, where he enhanced his proficiency in the German language and political culture.
William thinks that the biggest change in the shipping industry for the last 25 years has been regulation. – If you look how vessels were trading in the 70s and 80s and the early 90s, and then look at today, it’s a completely different world, he says and refers to a couple of international regulations; SOLAS (International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea), MLC (Maritime Labour Convention), ISM Code (International Safety Management Code) and ISPS Code (International Ship and Port Facility Security Code) which you maybe want to read up on before you listen.
