Per Bondemark is the Chief Procurement Officer at SSAB, a Swedish steel company listed on NASDAQ in Stockholm. He leads a team at SSAB which is buying transport for more than SEK 3 bio, handle approximately 900 ships yearly and are used to tackle the ice situation in the Baltic Sea.
There are so many different angles in this interview, we touch upon raw material in steel (!), politicians, regulations, environment, recruitment, infrastructure and how to decide which transport mode to use for which products.
Per is heading the Swedish Shipper’s Council, he is a member of the European Shipper’s Council and he has a habit of speaking his mind, both to politicians and supplier. Per emphasises that it is unfair to make small countries like Sweden & Finland to take the lead when it comes to changing the environmental footprint of the global merchant fleet. He is referring to the new SECA rules effective from Jan 1st, 2015.
